Uses in Different Communities
In the Luo community, it is used to treat mouth Sores (Yamo mar Lep). The leaves are smashed then the juice is applied/rubbed to the mouth after every meal.
Among the Kikuyu, it is used to manage a skin condition that they call Mbara. This is a disease that affects the front part of one's legs as a result of staying near a fireplace continuously for long. The leaves are smashed and then rubbed into the areas.
The Kisii use the plant to manage insect bites. The fresh leaves are rubbed into the area.
In the Luhya community, the plant is used to treat Mouth fungal Infections in children. The leaves are smashed and rubbed on the tongue or given to chew and swallow.
