It is used for constipation. The roots are boiled in 3 liters of water for 30mins, then a glass is taken in the morning and in the evening before meals. It induces instant diarrhea.  It has also been used to treat gonorrhea. 3 grams of grounded fresh roots are added to 1/2 of cold water. the mixture is stirred and allowed to settle. The clear solution has a strong and very bitter taste and should be taken in doses of a tsp thrice a day.
