For headaches, chest congestion, colds & stuffy nose, the leaves are boiled together with the stem in a covered pot for 10-15 minutes. After boiling, steam over the pot by covering it with a blanket while opening the pot cover in small intervals. All the steam is not let out at once. Flowers and root barks are also sniffed for stuffy nose, colds, and headaches

The plant has properties that cause a little irritating stinging feeling when inhaled.
NoteElephants use the roots to clear their trunks.
