The plant is used for constipation and diarrhea. A handful of fresh young leaves are boiled in 1 liter of water for 30mins. It is then filtered and drunk in portions throughout the day. It also controls hypertension.
When dealing with Anemia, the plant is used together with  Persea americana (avocado). A handful of leaves of each of the plants are crushed and soaked in 2lts of warm water for 30mins. 1 glass is taken twice daily for 2 weeks.
