Among the Maasai, the tree is used to treat teeth ache. Its back is powdered and put in teeth cavities. It also treats diabetes, stomachache and stomach gases. It is boiled and drunk. It can also be put in tea or soup. It is also used to treat wounds that have developed pus. Crush, mix with soda ash and apply.  Branches from the tree can be used as toothbrush. It can also be used to treat stomach pains. 
Among the Luo, it is used to treat arthritis. ¼ glass of juice from its root or back is mixed with ½ glass of milk and drank to treat arthritis.  It treats chest problems like pneumonia and bronchitis among others. It is also used to treat tuberculosis and allergy. ¼ teaspoonful of powder is mixed with a glass of milk and drank.
